Cutting Edge North
From 1989 to 2001 is when the Cutting Edge North was in full affect in Bennington VT. The motto was "We're from Vermont we do what we want." Drinking beers and late night parties and punk shows were the norm. Skating at this awesome indoor skatepark was the regular for some OG skaters some even from CT such as Bato, Merk, Sloppy Sam, Big Tim, Benny B, Jeff Toma and Jim Gagne. The park had a bowl in a symmetrical shape six and a half feet deep with 96 feet of coping to grind on surrounding it. The bowl later on turned into a "test tube" mini ramp and if you didn't follow the rules on the sign witch read "No Flippy Tricks in the Bottom of the Bowl" then you were outa there. If you ever get the chance to look in the Thrasher archives you'll have to look for the issue from the mid nineties highlighting the Cutting Edges influence on the skate scene in VT, and if you do get to see this issue you'll see longtime New England skater Mike Tallone airing outa the ramp in Jamaica VT with a big'ol CE sticker on his deck...This skate park created a home for a lot of skaters in Vermont and CT and for that we thank you Nick.... If your interested in whats been going on now in VT check out Nicks newest store called Podium in Manchester center VT.

Mayhem at Sugarloaf
CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — A chair lift derailed in high winds at Maine's tallest ski mountain Tuesday, sending skiers plummeting as far as 30 feet to the slope below and injuring several people.
The Sugarloaf resort in Carrabassett Valley, about 120 miles north of Portland, said on its Facebook page that there were about eight injuries and that its patrols were evacuating the lift.
..Most of the injuries appear to be minor, but the resort is still assessing the situation, Sugarloaf marketing director Brad Larsen told NBC News.
All the injured were treated and taken to hospitals. About 220 people were on the lift at the time.
Jay Marshall, who was on a lift next to the broken one, told The Associated Press that both lifts stopped, then restarted. Almost immediately he saw a problem, then heard screams.
"The lift started again. I looked to my left and could see the cable bouncing up and down. I could see that the cable had come off the (track wheels)," he said.
The spot where the cable jumped its track was about 50 feet above the snow. Some skiers tumbled from their chairs, he said.
."Once the thing started bouncing up and down beside me, I stopped looking. I didn't want to see it, honestly," Marshall said. "It was terrifying."
Gideon Hacker, a skier from Princeton, N.J., said he saw at least one person taken off the mountain in a gurney pulled by a snowmobile. He said Sugarloaf workers used a pulley device to lower skiers to safety.
The resort's website said it received between 20 and 22 inches of snow in this week's East Coast blizzard.
Jill Gray, a spokeswoman for Franklin Memorial Hospital about in Farmington, about 45 miles from the mountain, said that one person was taken there and immediately on to Maine Medical Center in Portland.
Another person was being treated in Franklin's emergency room, she said, and the hospital expected to receive five more patients. She did not give details on the injuries.
At the time of the accident, high winds were buffeting Maine a day after a blizzard swept across the region.
The National Weather Service has no wind sensors near Sugarloaf. But a weather balloon launched Tuesday morning in Gray, in southern Maine, showed winds of 40 mph at 1,000 feet, a weather service meteorologist.
At 4,237 feet, Sugarloaf is Maine's second-highest mountain after Mount Katahdin.

Way Back Wednesday!!
Duane Peters (born June 12, 1961, nicknamed "The Master of Disaster", is a punk rock singer/songwriter and professional skateboarder. Active since 1978, he is probably best known as the singer in the California punk rock band U.S. Bombs, which formed in 1993.Peters is credited for inventing many tricks, such as the "acid drop" into a pool/bowl, the "layback grind", the "Indy air", the "Sweeper", the "backside layback grind revert", the "fakie hang-up" (a.k.a. "Disaster"), the "invert revert", the "fakie thruster", and the "loop of death", a full 360-degree rotation in a specially designed loop. He also, along with Neil Blender, helped to evolve the footplant into the more dynamic fastplant
Peters was one of the very first high profile skaters to embrace punk rock, cutting his hair short and narrowing his jeans when most skaters were still wearing 1970s fashions.Peters was named Transworld Skateboarding's "Legend" in 2003. He is a professional skateboarder who rides for Pocket Pistols Skates. In May 2005, Black Label Skateboards released a biographic film, entitled Who Cares: The Duane Peters Story, and a second documentary is planned by havocTV, focusing on Peters' and Parks' path to sobriety.
Along with skateboarding, Peters is a well-known punk rock singer. He has formed bands such as the US Bombs, Political Crap, Die' Hunns (also known as Duane Peters and The Hunns), Duane Peters Gunfight, and Exploding Fuckdolls. He also owns a record label called Disaster Records, which represents bands such as The Briggs, Civet and The Hollowpoints.
Duanes music and style on a board have made him a hudge inspiration to us and to many other people out there. Thanks for doing what you do!

Powder Ridge!
MIDDLEFIELD — — The town will receive $500,000 from the state to make improvements at the former Powder Ridge ski resort site, the governor's office announced Wednesday.
The funds will be released after State Bond Commission approval on Dec. 10.
Since Powder Ridge closed in 2007, the resort has been vandalized and fallen into disrepair. The town bought the property and is trying to renovate and improve it to attract developers. The state grant will be used to upgrade the electrical and septic systems.
"Powder Ridge is the home of many fond memories for generations of Connecticut families – including my own," Gov. M. Jodi Rell said. "Sadly, it is now in disrepair. The town of Middlefield has acquired the property and is working diligently to find developers who will return the property to its former glory. I am glad the state can help."Wednesday, December 1, 2010
